day 5: fingers are tired... only 180 without mistakes and 220 seemed harder than yesterday. I'm probably over-doing it a bit. I was out late last night, too. It'll be better tomorrow.

day 4: ... I've touched 220 and bearing down on 230... Waiting for the sun to melt my wings... I'm doing this on an acoustic guitar so I imagine I'd do better on my RG... if it wasn't in pieces. This isn't the only 30 day video I'm doing, btw, but I do this one twice through or more depending on if I feel like restarting on my first or second mistake. If I'm near my max, I play them out until it's too sloppy to be doing anything constructive, just to give my fingers and arm some experience at the higher speeds. I'm also doing a chromatic 4/16ths vid, and another 3/16ths video that runs along most of the neck. I spend about 20-30 mins a day practicing but I'm seeing improvement in all of them. Also... I've been listening to Vai and playing guitar for 20 years... I'm 35, so I've been ready to finally put the time in to control my uselessly sloppy unguided shredding. Not everyone has the same experience, nor time, and will almost certainly not progress as fast without more of both of those. But it'll work eventually and much faster than twenty years with patience. This video is my favorite of the three but only because I know where it's going in the next three videos. I did try them but decided not to just skip to the third and fourth. By the end of the month... I'm aiming to be dang close to maxing out. That'll be as fast as I'll ever play though lol It's just warmups and songs after this month lol

day 3: broke 200... but... a mistake or two was made getting there. It's hard to restart though lol thanks

Great tips indeed.. I started at 40 8 years ago .. I noticed that most my picking in high speed is directional picking and I can only pick 16th not at 90 bpm .. Honestly only recently I paid attention to shredding and high speed picking.. Should I continue on this type of picking and try to build up speed or should I shift to pure alternate picking ? Thank you..

Day 1 = 60bpm Day 2= 70bpm I might have to increase 5bpm or even 2 or 3bpm per day from now on! Day 3= 75bpm Day 4= 77bpm (really trying to get it clean) fretting notes feels more difficult than picking Day5= 80bpm

gonna do this for a month spam me if I miss a day if you see this GOAL: 130bpm Day#: Max | average | time | notes day 1: 90bpm 90bpm 50 min sync between hands was the primary issue but speed and accuracy felt pretty good for picking and fretting. day 2: 100bpm 90bpm 30 min start was rough a lot of fails on the 60 but at the end I was getting really confident with 100bpm and I might be able to crack 110 tmw, still sync issues holding me back, also watched a picking technique vid so changed my grip a bit. day 3: 110bpm 100bpm 30 min much better tone and sync, could really feel a difference in how string transitions when using more angled picking as opposed to parallel, kind of cheated because it was past midnight hope I find the time for a longer drill tomorrow. day 4: 110bpm 35 min tone was super clean at the start but 120 was still sketchy, got quite sluggish at the end MISSED A DAY (still played guitar) so I did an am and pm session day 6 am: 110bpm 30 min feeling faster but the 120 wasnt quite clean day 6 pm: 110bpm 30 min pretty dissapointing, speed is feeling much better and if I forgive a few mistakes I can push up to 150 but I cant get the sync perfect day 7: 130bpm!!! 30 min hit my goal yay and I can push up to 160 with a few mistakes gonna start week 2 program

I think my fingers are too long or something cause curling my index finger in to make that "ledge" immediately puts tension on the ligament to that finger and the start of quicker hand fatigue. 🤷‍♂️ I've tried over and over. I play mostly acoustic and using the bridge has the pick behind the soundhole and not a great tone.
